Infection Control

Health care associated or hospital-acquired infections are a worldwide problem. Hospital-acquired infections can often be fatal and they cause significant morbidity among patients who receive healthcare. These complications of care require expensive use of health care resources and they often lead to increased use of medication and supplies, to more laboratory studies, and to increased duration of hospitalisation. They also may impair the quality of life of the patient with a Hospital acquired infections even after treatment. Prevention of Hospital acquired infections is therefore cost effective and achievable even when resources are limited.
Although C.diff, MRSA and E-coli have traditionally been seen as hospital associated infections, there is now a community-acquired spread of the epidemic. Best practices taken, prevention and control of the spread of such epidemics and any other associated viruses can be greatly reduced. In this respect, the choice and care of furnishing fabrics have a significant role to play in any public seating application – from healthcare to hospitality environments where hygiene standards are at the forefront for public health safety. Chieftain is the leading contract fabric in the fight against C.Diff, MRSA and E coli. The Chieftain collection contains a Ciba® antimicrobial additive in the vinyl formulation that is resistant to mould and prevents odours. Independent tests have shown that Chieftain with Ciba ® provides long lasting effectiveness counter-acting against MRSA, C.Diff, E-Coli and other harmful bacteria. With superb performance characteristics such as strength, fire retardancy, stain resistance and rub and print wear, Chieftain is ideal for use in high Infection Control areas, such as hospitals, residential homes and other caring institutions. Chieftain is simply the best fabric for use in any public seating application and is the only vinyl on the market to counteract C. diff.
Chieftain’s success in helping to prevent the spread of infections can be seen in its widespread use in most hospitals and care homes throughout the UK and Ireland. For a list of sample locations, please click here.
